After reading the bio on this blog you might be wondering, "that's all well and good, but how does an Ellipsis have anything to do with seinor pictures or a wedding album?" My goal in photography (and in all other art) is to make it memorable. No one wants forgetable memories. I want you to be able to remember those feelings you felt on that special day, to remember the freedom that came with graduation.
In these Sr. pics I used the idea of Ellipsis in the netting in the back ground. The idea that a net portrays is bondage. This idea is very applicable to a Sr. pic because the light at the end of the tunnel that every grad see's, is freedom. So Victoria can look back on these pictures and see, not just what she looked like at the end of high school, but she can remember that feeling of freedom better.
These are things that the observer might not even think of, but its the unconscious feelings and ideas that cause you to look at something longer. Why do you gaze at a sunset? Most likely because it is pretty. However there is also that slight cathartic tension that something is ending and we want to see it as long as we can until its gone. That's why when one sits on the beach they leave after the sun has dipped below the water, even though the sky is still full of colors. The sun is gone the story is over. The story is different though when there is a tree line blocking our view. One will keep watching because the sun might not have gone below where they might be able to see if the trees aren't there, the story might not be over. You see, its not the object that keeps you looking, it's unfinished plot.
